This month, the Christian Science Fiction and Fantasy blog tour is featuring Beyond the Reflection’s Edge by Bryan Davis. This alternate universe thriller is one of those titles marketed to young adults that may be more appropriate for adults in some ways. Meaning, up front, this mature adult loved this thoughtful, made-for-the-silver-screen,  headache-inducing mind-bending acid trip (I mean that in the nicest way possible, and granted I was coming off post-operative pain meds, which certainly doesn’t help in the headache department.) However, the violence, which includes a demon-type guy that goes around gorging out eyes with a death ray, is such that parents, particularly theRead More →

This one has been languishing on my review pile for a while. Not from being too busy (though I have had a few mishaps in that department) or because it’s a bad book. I just had a hard time getting through it and have now given up trying. Be Last, by Jeremy Kingsley, covers a topic sorely needed. In fact, my small group at church is covering essentially the same principle, servant leadership. The tone of the book is a little preachy, but mostly in a good way. Imagine the most engaging sermon, most memorable speaker, you’ve ever heard, and that’s a lot like whatRead More →

Actually, September’s Christian Science Fiction and Fantasy Tour is for Marcher Lord Press, a new internet venture headed up by Jeff Gerke‘s (as in agape love rather than mouth agape, though he might prefer “as in Foxy rather than Foxe”- kidding!) But I chose to focus on one of the three titles Marcher Lord Press is opening their doors with, The Personifid Invasion by R. E. Bartlett. I found the novel both mentally engaging and entertaining, not to mention more balanced on than is typical on such issues. For instance, when a couple feels led to leave their nice safe cave and move into aRead More →

First, I nearly didn’t sign up for this review because I hate writing negative reviews and the plot summary I read at Amazon for Broken Angel by Sigmund Brouwer sounded more like Anti-Christian liberal propaganda than a Christian novel. But I decided not to judge a book by it’s Amazon blurb and read it with an open mind, or at least as open as a Christian can be and stay true to Christ. I found Broken Angel a fairly well written, fast paced read that will suck the reader right in. Even this one. Brouwer commends himself as a writer and should be proud ofRead More →
