“ The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds, there is none who does good.” (Psalm 14:1) So Bible Gateway does have a sense of humor, making this the verse of the day on April 1. I managed  to get through this day without seriously thinking about trying to deceive anyone, something God managed to convince me is wrong (read: convict me of being wrong) even for “fun.” It is foolish to say there is no God, and only growing more foolish the more we look inside the cell and see the order and structure of factory assemblyRead More →

He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.” (Isaiah 53:3-4) The suffering messiah so badly tortured he barely even looks human as they crucify him isn’t nearly as popular as the image of majestic  conquering king coming for his Bride that many a fluttering heart amongst us longs for. I imagine our hearts will say “you’re beautiful!” and I know weRead More →

“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” (James 1:12) Recently we’ve talked about, based on psalms, pressing our roots down into the streams of living water flowing from the Lord being the key to weathering the storms of life (okay, so we used desert imagery.) Here James reasserts plainly the need for the steadfastness implied by the tree roots dipped into a flowing river so it has the resources to survive no matter what the weather of the world throwsRead More →

“ The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” (Psalm 23:1-3) These words of comfort reach across ages. The promise is true today. Humble yourself under the Lord’s rod and His staff and trust and hear no other voice. You know his voice, for you are his, chosen out of the world, beautiful and precious in his eyes. If you are tired, wrung out, stressed out, discouraged, and/or afraid, allow him to lay you downRead More →

“Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,” (Deuteronomy 7:9) Why do we know this? Verses 6-8 tells us we are his treasured possession, chosen out of all the world. He reminds us, in choosing the nation of Israel to be his (a nation whom we are joined to through the blood of His son) he choose not a nation great in numbers, but the fewest of all peoples. It doesn’t matter how small and insignificant you are to God. What mattersRead More →
